Green is the New Black!
As our efforts to combat climate change continue in our quest to be more green, we find ourselves at a turning point in which we are finally dedicating significant resources on a global scale to create a greener and more sustainable future. As you may have heard, one of the main strategies for reducing our global fossil fuel use is to switch as many things as we can to electric power from coal, oil or gas power.
But why? Isn’t electricity generated by fossil fuels? Are we not just shifting the problem? More than 10 years ago, these would have been extremely valid points, and they still are today to a degree. However, renewable energy sources are now starting to overtake fossil fuels in terms of electricity generation. Last year in the UK, we saw more energy generated from renewable sources (wind, solar, hydro, etc) than from fossil fuel sources (coal, oil and gas) which as we know, releases unhealthy carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Think green…
With the growing adoption of renewable energy, we are now realising a future in which we can power everything using green energy and completely break away from unhealthy fossil fuels seeing as there is theoretically nothing that we can’t power with electricity that we currently power with fossil fuels. Funding for electric vehicle research and development has exploded over the last 5 years as the car industry has recognised that electricity is the way forward. It is expected that other industries in the transport sector will soon follow suit, such as the aviation industry which contributes massively to global carbon emissions.
A greater future with a greener lifestyle…
The foundations of a green energy future are already being laid as more and more homes cut ties with fossil fuels completely by replacing unhealthy gas or oil-fired boilers with clean, electric Air Source Heat Pumps. Switching to a heat pump and an electric hob/oven system will completely remove your home’s dependence on fossil fuels, if you go a step further and switch to an electric vehicle then you have essentially achieved becoming completely carbon neutral on a day-to-day basis, saving literally tons of dangerous CO2 from being released into the air. The added benefits of a green electric-powered lifestyle are the costs, seeing as renewable energy will be far cheaper than electricity generated by burning expensive fossil fuels. For the first time since the dangers of climate change were realised, there is a bright future on the horizon for humanity, providing we all do our part however we can.
